Coretta Scot King's autobiography

Coretta Scott King, the widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in her book, My Life With Martin Luther King, Jr., talks about her earliest Sunday school memories on page 27, "Grandfather Scott would open the Sunday school service by singing a hymn. We had a prayer in the large group--about thirty-five people--then went to our classes, where we were told Bible stories and taught the Catechism."

Later, on page 48, Mrs. King discusses God's plan for us, "I believe that there is a plan and a purpose for each person's life and that there are forces working in the universe to bring about good and to create a community of love and brotherhood. Those who can attune themselves to these forces--to God's purpose--can become instruments of His will."

The passage above reminded me of the Old Testament book of Jeremiah, chapter 29, verse 11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." (From the King James Bible)

The Senior Pastor of my church, Dr. Lucius M. Dalton, is covering the Book of Acts in Bible study.

You can view his notes online at the discussion board of our church, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church:

Bible Study Resource-Back to the Bible

I listened to an 8-week Bible study series this summer on the book of Revelation from the radio program, Back to the Bible.

The transcript of the Revelation series begins at:

http://www.backtothebible.org/broadcasts/radio/today.php/27318

I like the fact that this radio show provides a written
transcript of their programs so that I can keep up and later
review the notes.

My Church Newsletter

Howdy everybody!

I haven't posted anything new in quite a while.

I thank my brother-in-law, William, for checking this site and asking
if I had anything new.

At present, I'm hard at work on a book I'll publish (prayerfully this fall),
which will be a collection of Christian-themed short stories for children.

Until then, you can catch up on things I've written as editor for my church's publication, The Clarion, the official newsletter of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church of
Washington, DC.

You can find the Clarion by going to our church Web site:
http://www.mountmoriahchurch.org/clarion.html

Issues of the Clarion are posted as PDF files.

Be sure to explore other parts of our church site while you're there.

God bless,

Steve

What God Has Done For Me

The following article was first published in the November 2005 Evangelism Ministry Newsletter of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church:

By Brother Steve Kendall

I recently heard someone say, “God is greater than your barriers.” That phrase is certainly true for me these days. I believe God has a way of getting our attention and drawing us closer to Him through Jesus Christ. After my health failed and I could no longer work full-time, it was God and God alone who helped me to not only cope with these barriers, but He continued to provide for my needs.

So, if you’re reading this and believe your problems are too great for you, pray to Jesus and ask Him to come into your life. He will help you carry your burdens.

Would you like a better, more abundant life?

The following article was first published in the November 2005 Evangelism Ministry Newsletter of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church:

In the New Testament Bible, in the book of John, 10th chapter, 10th verse, Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

Jesus wants you to have a better, more abundant life. Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and accept Him into your life.

Mount Moriah Baptist Church wants to help you to become a Spirit-filled, productive Christian.
